Ibride: not your everyday avian occasional table

I love the proportions of this cheeky "ostrich" table, by the French design firm, Ibride (= "hybrid"). Mocoloco mentioned some of Ibride's "Mobilier de compagnie" tables a while back, but I didn't find any especially appealing as tables. But this one is kind of great-- I think it's the contrast of the long gangly legs with the feathery, plump curves.

What a great entryway table this would make! But which way would you point the feet...going out or coming in? I guess coming in...

Phoebochka, I'm half and half on this one.
On the one hand, this table is just the right amount of weird and quirky and absurd and fun that makes for great design. (LOVED anonymous' comment on which way to point the legs!)
On the other (um, severed) hand, ostrich truncation in a table strikes me as disturbingly perverse.
In the (rear) end, the elegant clash of low and high "brow" in one piece ultimately wins me over.

Erika, I think you've hit upon exactly why this table is so freakishly appealing. :)

Plus I think the lines of it, even if one had never seen an ostrich nor noticed that it were a bird (ok, I realize that's pushing it), are still very, very appealing as an abstract shape.

occasional table is the general term for a small table that can be placed alongside a chair or sofa. Occasional tables can be used to hold lamps, drinks or accessories, and can serve as coffee tables or portable bars. End tables, side tables, tripod tables and candle stands are all variations on the occasional table. These pieces can be both functional and decorative, adding contrasting style, texture or color to a room, or simply filling a void.
