origami paper collages by shiso

These collages are by a new silk felt soil reader, Shiso! I recently found her site and was struck by her beautiful, graphic use of color: the sweet softness of the pinks are balanced by her crisp, clean shapes. I can really see her work being translated to home design, such as wallpaper-- or pillows, á la Hable construction!

Hm. Just so you know, your nomenclature is a little misleading. No worries, most people aren't aware, but you really can't use the word 'origami' to define something cut. The word "origami" is actually a compound word. "Ori/Oru" is the verb meaning to fold. "Gami/Kami" is the noun for paper. Ergo origami can only be used when referring to folded paper. Kirigami (the art of cutting paper) couldn't even be construed as this because that's more like snoflake art. This is just plain-jane collage. ^_^ Hope it helps for future reference.

hi anon-
thanks for your note.

in using the phrase "origami paper" i'm quoting the artist, shiso mama, who writes,

"For the colored bits, I only use origami paper. I’ve tried using other papers, but keep coming back. I like the thinness and variety of color I can get in origami paper."

hope that helps.
