update on color trend: super baby pink
in late february, i wrote...
i think amy at the great new blog design dna is on to something: a color that she charmingly calls "super baby pink" as in "the super baby pink outdoor cushions are speaking to me." if you're looking for an alternate to the beautiful (yet already ubiquitous) bright citron colors of the season, you may want to consider it. (eg, as a ceiling color in an all-white room, say.)
(oh, and don't let its softness deceive you. nor should you be tempted to mistake it for the preppy irony of a jcrew pink. this is something else, a barely-there hue. maybe we should think of it as a subversive off-white.)

so I'd love to hear from you about this... is this a color for which you can see yourself developing a fondness? or is it too... well, too sugar-girly? myself, i'm definitely loving it, though haven't incorporated it yet into the house...
i am thinking, though, of painting all my wooden furniture a nude color, in high-gloss....

I LOVE this color. If only I was allowed to paint walls pink I would do it, but pink walls have been banned by the man in my life. (this is why I have a pink closet)
even martha uses it only in a guest house-- there's something too too much about it. maybe a single wall, and the rest all white? it definitely needs something to "yang" up its "yin".
someday i'll paint all the ceilings in the house a very subtle, barely-there pink. i think it would reflect very flattering light. i've seen it done, actually, with wine-colored walls, and paintings of turquoise mosaics, (in a museum lecture hall).
the color in your UPDATE! from April 4th is the most interesting to me. more flesh or pale terracotta than pink -- there's a tiny bit of orange in there. thanks for sharing it.
too bad painting the walls is out for me when i move into my new apt in 2 weeks...but maybe a bookcase! (a turquoisy green-blue would probably be the front-runner there though)
i love the palest of this colour too, but i think i would want it in a very airy, open room, or as a furniture colour. and i love your idea of painting the ceilings in that barely-there colour - i think that would look softly stunning.
Here's a tip Miss Phoebe: If you want to achieve a super-high-gloss-like-lacquer get yourself some Sign Painter's 1-Shot Lettering Enamel. Pearl Paint and the art supply place across the street on Mass Ave. have it. Two coats with a synthetic brush, allow to dry thoroughly, and you're golden. I have lacquer fever and have done some of the Polar White on two ball and stick chairs and a console. Only downside is that neither of those places have a proper color swatch guide -- try looking at dickblick.com for an idea of the different colors.
And I love the pink, not too saccharine at all. I think I remembering seeing Plum Sykes similarly colored living room walls in Vogue a year or so back and she said her husband barely noticed it, then totally loved it. Or something like that.

Oh, I am also very much in love with this color, if you find a beautiful, glowy pink that looks like the sun is setting outside..that would be perfect, and let me know if you do, b/c I am looking for the same thing!
